In the Corner this month is Oldroyd on Upper Street in Islington. Opened on 9th July it is the first venture from Tom Oldroyd, formerly the Chef Director of the superb Polpo Group. A former cafe, it has now been transformed into a beautifully compact 40 cover restaurant, with every bit of space imaginatively made use of.

The restaurant offers a daily changing European menu built around seasonal British ingredients sourced as locally as possible. It features small plates such as summer radishes, smoked cod, smoked pork belly and pea croquettes with truffle mayonnaise. As well as larger dishes such as crab tagliarini provençal with brown crab rouille, and cured Welsh veal tonnato with smoked anchovies. The critics are piling in after an amazing initial review from none other than Fay Maschler. Expect more rave reviews to come, but we suggest don’t wait for them – just go and find out for yourselves.
